Centenary United Methodist Church Resuming In-Person Worship June 21

What to Expect

We’re looking forward to gathering again. However, things will be different for a while. These measures are being taken in line with Governor Holcomb’s Back on Track Plan, the CDC, and the Indiana Conference. We are also taking them in an effort to follow John Wesley’s first General Rule “Do No Harm.” Thanks to the Board of Trustees for their work in putting them in place. Thanks to Ben Kempf and Tim Blythe for working on the floors and cleanup of the FLC and Brian Fleming and Scott Putler for seeing to the Livestream of our worship during the time we’ll be in the FLC.

  • Worship will be in the FLC for the time being.
  • Please worship from home if you are not feeling well, have any COVID-19 symptoms, or are not ready to come to worship.
  • Please bring a face mask and wear it during the service.
  • There will be one door in the FLC designated for entering and one for exiting. The doors will be open to minimize touching them. The back doors will be locked (they can be opened from inside to comply with fire code).
  • The church building will be locked on Sunday morning.
  • We will sit with those in our family unit and will be spaced out 6 feet from others not in our family unit.
  • We will not have the “Meet and Greet.” Please refrain from handshakes, hugs, etc.
  • Ushers will escort you in and out of the worship service. Please avoid gathering inside the FLC.
  • We will not have congregational singing for the time being.
  • No food or beverages will be served until further notice (This includes funeral dinners, Good Neighbors, etc.).
  • We will not provide nursery or childcare. Children are welcome to attend but must stay with their parent(s). Children over 2 years old are asked to wear a face mask.
  • The FLC will be open for worship only until further notice. Sunday school, children’s and youth ministries, Bible studies etc. are encouraged to meet online or in an alternative way other than in person.
  • Communion will be celebrated the first Sunday of the month and will be prepackaged.
  • We can celebrate baptisms—one family per service.
  • We will not pass the offering plate. You’re encouraged to use online giving or mail. There will be an offering plate available if you want to leave your offering as you enter or leave.
  • We will continue worship online via our YouTube Channel (Centenary UMC) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVOr5AXcDL6SykomjMkb5mA

We know these are difficult measures, but they are temporary. A vaccine will be found, and this pandemic will end. Until then, we need to do all we can to love our neighbor by following the best practices we can. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
